Designed to help consumers shop for home loans, Shopping for Your Home Loan, HUD's Settlement Costs booklet was revised and posted on the HUD website on December 16, 2009. Several updates were released by HUD in 2010 and beyond. The booklet has since been updated by the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection, the new agency enforcing RESPA, to reflect their permissible changes as outlined in the Federal Register dated December 20, 2011 (Volume 76, No. 244 page 78981).

The Federal Register also goes on to restate RESPA's requirement that the booklet be provided to applicants no later than three business days after the application is received or prepared.
